Micah's First Birthday

This week was Micah's first birthday. This is him after eating his birthday cake with lots of chocolate icing! We celebrated his birthday with part of my family at my sister's place in Pembroke. It was a good day, but it was also difficult. On days like this, I miss Paula so much. We've had to celebrate a number of special occasions without her already: Father's Day, my birthday, Paula's mom's birthday. At the end of July will be the 7th anniversary of our wedding. These days are hard.

I'm not sure if anyone is still reading the blog. I have not written anything for a while since I have been away at my parents' place in Hamilton for a period of time. It was good to be away and to spend time with my parents and with friends. My parents were very helpful and allowed me a time to rest and reflect in a way that is difficult to do when I am on my own. Coming back to Ottawa after being away was tough as Paula's absence is so much more pronounced here.

Thank you to all who have emailed, called, sent cards or gifts for these days of celebration. It is nice to be thought of. I still covet your prayers. Please pray for Micah and I as we begin to adjust to this new and unexpected life we find ourselves in. Please pray that God will continue to comfort and guide us through this dark time. Thank you.

Hi Darren! We had the pleasure of meeting you at our home in Vancouver when Mendelt and Marisa lived in our basement suite - I also have fond memories of your dad as my teacher. I have been following your blog faithfully and my heart has ached so many times for you while doing so. May God continue to be faithful in His promise to never leave or forsake you as you raise up little Micah, a precious gift He has entrusted to you.

This blog is such a testimony to the beautiful person Paula was. It's great you set it up, I hope it brings you much comfort reading what others write. Take care.

Hi Darren,
I have been struggling for a while with words to write down. I found that I had to write now as I noticed that at the end of this post you wondered if anyone is reading this. I know that I keep checking this to see how you and Micah are doing. Please know that there are many of us out there that do read these and appreciate them. My heart goes out to you.

Paula's Mom June writes.
Darren we think of you and Micah every minute of the day and pray daily that God will guide you and watch over you and Micah and keep you both safe.We loved the CD your Dad sent us of Micah's Birthday,we both watched it over and over again yesterday when it arrived. The first few times I couldn't see it with so many tears flowing,he looks so like Paula when she was a baby and as cute as can be.I wish we had stayed until after Micah's Birthday, but you know Gerry was having a tough time been in Ottawa trying to cope with the loss of our dearest daughter Paula who came into our lives at 10weeks old with her lovely smile and bright eyes and she turned our lifes into an adventure, never knowing what she would challenge and achieve day after day.She was always a bright light from heaven and enjoyed life to the full, but we never saw her shine as she did on her wedding day to you Darren and again the day Micah was born.We loved watching her care for her little angel Micah.Everything Paula did she gave 100%,but she gave Micah 150% and we are sure she is helping us all right now as we mourn her loss. She will always be with us in our hearts and she is without a doubt, a very clever angel that now shines up in heaven We love you both very much.

Still reading Darren. Every other day I come here and read some comments. I have been in contact with Stephen and he has helped me process things. Eventhough I haven't met you personally - my heart aches for you and Micah. Your pain and suffering must be so difficult, but thank you so much for updating us all. Micah with all the chocolate on his little face is priceless! Thinking of you. Take Care.
